Meet Beverly Whitehouse: CASA Cards for a Cause Artist

We asked friends, families, and supporters of CASA to generously submit any original artwork they thought would make a great greeting card. We were graciously overwhelmed by the amount of support we received from everyone: 70 artists submitted over 100 pieces to the fundraiser. Meet Beverly Whitehouse: one of the 19 artists whose piece was chosen to help benefit victimized children in New Hampshire.

Sweetness and Song by Beverly Whitehouse – available as a card

Beverly Whitehouse of Dover, New Hampshire is going on 25 years of water coloring. This chickadee, one of Beverly’s original watercolor pieces, is available to purchase as a greeting card. To learn about her passions, we asked Beverly a few questions:

CASA: Tell us about yourself! What is your background? Do you primarily create art or do you have other hobbies/careers?
BEVERLY: While I have been painting with watercolor for about 25 years now, my son says I’m a maker, from a family of makers, I’m happiest creating something (including but not limited to pie).

CASA: How long have you been creating art? How were you introduced to this craft?
BEVERLY: My friend, Marci, and I paint together once a week (though some weeks we discuss knitting patterns or spend the time laughing uproariously), and we’ve done that for many years.

CASA: Do you have a process you typically use to generate new ideas?
BEVERLY: It seems that everywhere I look there is something beautiful or interesting, or memorable and I instantly think “I should paint that”, so I do, or I file it away to do later.

CASA: Do you have any influencers in the art industry that you particularly enjoy?
BEVERLY: Many artists have influenced me, the well known ones like Jamie Wyeth and Frank Weston Benson, as well as my dear friend, the late Ann Tolson, whose unique style and outlook continue to inspire me.

Thank you to Beverly and every other artist who submitted to the CASA Cards for a Cause Fundraiser. This fundraiser is yet another way ordinary people can make extraordinary efforts in combating child abuse and neglect in New Hampshire. There are so many way to help, so thank all of you who have done so.
