"Millionaire for a Day"
CASA OF NH NEWS — (Jun 25, 2008) —
“Millionaire for a Day”,
Special thanks to Owen Parker and Profile Bank.
Owen just completed the 5th grade at Alton Central School. During the year, he competed in the “Millionaire for a Day” essay contest sponsored by Profile Bank. The essay was to focus on non-profit organizations and the fact that many are not receiving the funds needed to operate due to the current state of the economy. Each student was asked to plan a fundraiser for a non-profit of their choice.
Owen writes, “When kids are abused an organization called CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) helps. In 1977 a Seattle judge came up with the idea to have volunteers that could help kids who need to go to court because of child abuse. People can help be with the kids when they go to court. This organization has helped one million kids. Their goal is to help one hundred thousand more kids in 2008. My aunt was a volunteer for this organization. I like this foundation because you help someone who is hurt physically and mentally. I would do car washing for a week to help raise money for this organization. I would buy all of my supplies, towels, soap, etc. It would take place at my house on a hot summer day. I would hang signs at the end of the road and in front of my driveway. How would you feel if you helped a kid find new safe home? If you chose me I will do all I can to raise money for the foundation CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) to help kids get a safe permanent homes. I Owen Parker am happy to help kids who need it most”.
The essay was recognized by Profile Bank and a donation on Owen’s behalf was made by the bank to CASA in the amount of $250.00.
